Neurogenesis Exercises

Neurogenesis refers to the process of generating new neurons in the brain. Neurogenesis plays a crucial role in brain plasticity, learning, memory, and maintaining cognitive function throughout life. Exercises that are believed to encourage or support neurogenesis enhance brain function, memory, and cognitive flexibility. The best way to keep our brain healthy is to combine two different task as we move. For example, while tossing a ball up in the air, you count backwards outloud by 3, then every time you say an odd number you pick up your left foot. In the beginning these drills may seem hard, but as you generate new neurons, you will find it to become easier. At this point, adding one more factor such as lifting up your right leg after you’ve counted three numbers will add the needed challenge for your brain.
